If you are like me before, it will be a WHOLE NEW WORLD (to quote Disney's Aladdin) -- fitness jargon, exercise machines & trainers that insists on talking to you while you struggle on the treadmill ... Actually, they are accessing your fitness level. If you can still conduct a conversation, you're reasonably fit. They'll increase your current level until your gasping slightly. That's your current fitness level.
Some members are intimidated and will not even meet the personal trainers. Some feel that they know what they want to do at the gym, so do not see the need for PT. Some feel that the PTs are just trying to sell them PT sessions to earn commission.
I recommend you go and try out the PT and learn & ask as much as you can. At the end of the complimentary sessions, the PT should outline a general Training Plan for you to achieve your goal. It will be your decision to buy the PT sessions or carry on your own 'training'.
If you are a newbie, can afford the price tag and if your PT is sufficiently qualified, I say go for it (at least one round) ! There's so much more to this fitness thing than just running a few laps on the treadmill, trying out a few or all exercise machines by following the instructions on the machine, as I have observed MANY PEOPLE DOING!
It's dangerous if you exert yourself too much with the wrong 'form' (ie. technique). PTs are trained to 'spot' (ie. identify) mistakes and determine the intensity & duration of your workout so that you do not WASTE your $$, TIME, EFFORT & HOPE!
Also, you may, like me, end up so thrill with the discovery of how BEING FIT can LIBERATE YOU!! You look better, feel more alive & now know how to be in control of your body.
